Don’t Overwhelm Yourself, Take It Day by Day

Think about the future and you'll realize how overwhelming it may be. Things that haven't occurred yet or that may never happen may cause us to overthink them. If anything occurred in the past or even earlier, we may worry excessively over it, believing that one minor incident might wreck a whole day or perhaps our entire lives. That, however, is not the case. Instead, focus on the here and now. Accomplish what you need to do today, and let the rest take care of itself.

Take it one day at a time.

Perhaps this was a particularly horrible day. But tomorrow will be better on its own terms. You had a rough day the other day. Now is the perfect time to put things behind you and have a fantastic time. You can't concentrate on the now if you're always thinking about the future or the past. Nobody will like it. It's not a way of life. A day at a time approach. If you're working on a big project, break it down into manageable chunks.

Do what you can today, but don't get bogged down in the details just yet. Just concentrate on the problem at hand and how you intend to address it, and nothing else. Ask yourself whether there is anything you can do today to help the situation if you are worried about something that has yet to happen.

If you're able to, go ahead and do it. Give up if you can't. Worrying before or after the fact is pointless; you can always worry about things as they happen. It's difficult to foster this way of thinking, but it's possible if you only pay attention to the present moment. Allow the past and future to fade away, and focus on the here and now. What are the current events in your immediate environment? Focusing on what's most important is a good idea. What's the next step? You may have to think about the future or the past from time to time.

Do not, however, allow your thoughts to stray too often. Focus on the present moment. In this way, you can reduce your anxiety and regret. Focus your efforts on the things that really matter to you, and you'll have a better quality of life.
